problems with cray compiler on ARCHER

Reported by: luke Owned by: um_support

UM Version: 7.3

I am having problems compiling and running on ARCHER using the Cray cce/8.2.1 fortran compiler. I can compile the code using the standard 'safe' compiler option, but this then dies in the UKCA routine asad_chem_flux_diags.F90 which on HECToR I needed to compile with -O1. The error I get is

 UM ERROR (Model aborting) :
 Routine generating error: ASAD_FLUX_PUT_STASH
 Error code: 34301
 Error message:
ASAD_FLUX_PUT_STASH copydiag ERR: @306b372377^?^@^@P^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^N^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@`306b372377^?^@^@P^@^@^@^@

When I compile with 'debug' the code runs without a problem.

When I compile manually setting -g in fflags64_mpp the code compiles and dies with the same error.

I'm trying to work out what the changes are that are made to the code when compiling with 'debug', and then see if I can track these back to see what it does and then see if I can unpick which change is important (and then hopefully track it back to a particular file).

When I diff what the ftn compile options are for each file, the main difference seems to be the inclusion of -g - however, for files which have been specified to have non-standard compile options (currently:

these actually don't have the -g specified, and the code runs. Setting fflags64_mpp with -g means that they all compile with -g and the code dies. I'm not sure if this is indicative of a potential solution or not. I am trying to run more tests, but my job compiled with 'safe', xjfie, seems to be having a problem with compiling, as it has been doing so for over 90 minutes. I can't run many more tests with this being the case.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreaciated.

Many thanks,

Grenville helped with this - a small section of code needs to be removed to allow the code to compile. See
