trac contributions sent out in encoded form

Dear helpdesk

Trac helpfully sends out additions to tickets by email. Why are the emails encoded (Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64)? Is this necessary? It is somewhat inconvenient because it means I can't find the emails by searching my mbox. (I suppose I could write a script to decode them before searching.)

Hi Jonathan,

There is no specific reason for base64 encoding, other than it's the default setting! The only other option is "quoted-printable" so I have changed the configuration to use that.

Hopefully this response will be sent in the new format. Can you let me know if this fixes your problem?

Great. I'll make sure I implement this on the other Trac systems.

For future reference the fix is to add the following to the trac.ini file.

mime_encoding = qp
