Dear all,

I've been attempting for some time now to run a 4 km job without much success.
That is, I have one job that works: xcxmd - runs like a dream[[BR]]
However this job has a different rotated pole from my larger 12 km jobs. So I've been trying with domains having the rotated pole at lat = 25 degrees and lon = 145 degrees.

In an attempt to avoid high orography on the border I have one job that includes the whole of Iceland and only ocean points at the boundaries: xcxmn.
However, even this job fails in the first time step.
I'm plainly out of ideas.
Some of the ancillary file variables have funky values, e.g. the soil parameters but the values are the same as in xcxmd.
Any suggestions/help would be more than appreciated!

I also have the peculiar problem that I'm unable to submit a job from a precompiled executable. When I try to use a precompiled executable I'm told that the wall_clock_limit is missing and the job is not submitted.

The only way I can think this can happen is if you are compiling the reconfiguration but not compiling the UM. If you do this on HPCx there will be no time set for the compile batch job and the job will fail.

If you don't need to compile the reconfiguration then turn this off in the umui and the main UM job will be okay.

If you do need to compile the reconfiguration then the umui also needs to have compiling the UM turned on as well. If you don't want to compile the UM then you will need to run a reconfiguration only job (with compiling the UM on) this will compile the reconfiguration only. You then run the UM in a separate step with all compilation turned off.

yes this makes sense.
Would be amazing if you could solve my real problems as easily :-)

BTW, xconv hasn't been able to read the file type of my UM ancillary and boundary files created later than 27.03. I need to tick the 64bit ieee box every time.

Grenville notes:

I created a new LAM shifted NE by 1 grid point, got ancillaries from northerly, recreated the start dump and lbcs - the job ran OK for an hour.

Nina did the same, but used mercury for ancillary generation. The resulting files differed by those created on northerly at/by one land point - her job failed again. I suggested that she use the files I created.

Grenville,

using your ancillaries results in a working job, i.e. successful 24 hours run.
Clearly there is an ancillary problem, i.e. not-just-me, that hopefully will be cleared in the new code.
At the moment, I'll give it a hard think before trying to change the domain, as almost all my 4km domains have failed.
