Queueing jobs

Description

Hello,

I'm trying to run a number of jobs on Archer, but submitted them several days ago and they are still just queueing - nothing has happened at all.

Is this because the queue is just unusually bad, or are you not running any jobs on purpose?

I admit that I submitted these jobs before I realised we weren't meant to until early April, so many apologies about that! I must have missed Grenville's email.

If they are being held on purpose, could you let me know roughly when we will be able to run jobs?

Many thanks,

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

If you do "qstat -f" on one of the queued jobs, it says,

Not Running: PBS Error: ARCHER: User cjrw09 is not in n02-NEI022485

So please check that you have used the right account code.

Regards

Willie

Dear Willie,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I really don't understand that error. That account code is correct, and is the one I have been using successfully for the past year or so. I copied this job from a previous job I ran on Hector, so the account code has not changed.

The only thing that has changed is the machine, Hector to Archer. My username, cjrw09, is the same.

In fact, this error makes even less sense given that I initially created another username on Archer, cjrw14, and started to run the same job - this worked fine. Upon advice from Grenville, I then had to kill this job, however, and create the username cjrw09, to make it compatible with the RDF.

So why is it now not recognising my username with that account? It is the same!

Charlie

I added cjrw09 you to n02-NEI022485 on ARCHER. There is no connection between the accounting on ARCHER and HECToR.

Dear Grenville,

Thanks very much indeed, that's great. 2 more simple questions:

Firstly, given what you said above, why did my job run perfectly well when I was using the username cjrw14 on Archer? This wouldn't have been associated with the account either, would it? Yet it ran perfectly well.

And secondly, following the advice from your email (which, as I said before, I'm sorry that I missed the first time round), do you want me to not resubmit my jobs? If so, when do you you think it will be safe to do so?

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

Charlie

cjrw14 was set up to see the relevant account - your new username hadn't got that far. None of this is automatic, requiring human inervention at several stages; setting of disc quotas for ARCHER accounts, for example, is still ongoing.

If your jobs require small amounts of resource they should be OK - you can check the AUs remaining for your accounts with the "budgets" command at the ARCHER command line.
