Description

Dear helpdesk,

ticket #1262 answer my question about fcm. Is there a reason why it isn't a module? As part of the MONC project we are working with people at EPCC (Nick Brown). They are happy to sort it out, going via Andy Turner, but I thought I better check with you first. Is this OK for us to get it set up as a module, the people doing the MONC project at EPCC are happy to keep it maintained?

I can forward emails to the relevant people so we close the loop as it were!

Thanks,

Regards, Chris.

Hi Chris,

The short answer is we currently have no need for fcm to be a module. FCM is only used under the UM/NEMO framework and it is much easier to just "export PATH:/path/to/fcm" in the UMUI than to maintain modules.

I have, however, been experimenting with modules for when Rose comes online.

I have no objection, on the face of it, to fcm being set up as a module. I would, however, first need to understand any implications, so I think it would be good to start up a conversation with Andy Turner about how this would work. For example; I assume the installation of the FCM code would still remain under $UMDIR and under our control to update? Where does the module file live and who would have access to update it?

Are you happy to start up an email conversation?

Regards,
Ros.
