more quota on PUMA needed

Reported by: till Owned by: um_support
Component: PUMA Keywords: user quota
Cc: Platform: PUMA
UM Version: 8.6

Description

Dear CMS team,

I think I need more quota on PUMA. I tried to check out a branch of the UM8.6 (/home/till/vn8.6_convec_ini) but there's not enough space.

Thank you for your help.

sorry had to remove the directory /home/till/vn8.6_convec_ini altogether since I couldn't work at all otherwise

I just tried to check out the branch of vn8.6. Even 3 GB are not enough it appears, I've hot my quota again I'm afraid.

Hi Till,

Which branch are you trying to checkout? They are usually only a few hundred Mb tops.

Cheers,
Ros.

Hi Ros,

this is the command I'm trying to run:

fcm co svn://puma/UM_svn/UM/ branches/dev/Till/vn8.6_convec_ini $HOME/vn8.6_convec_ini

Admittedly it's my first encounter with the FCM. However I get very good advice from Bill Roseblade (at the Met Office) with this.

Hi Till,

You have an error in the command above, there is a <space> between svn://puma/UM_svn/UM/ and branches/dev so it is trying to check out the entire UM repository hence you keep hitting your quota.

The command you need to run is:

fcm co fcm:um_br/dev/till/vn8.6_convec_ini

this will checkout your branch to the current working directory and is ~138Mb.

I would also recommend using the FCM keywords (e.g. fcm:um_br this is the same as typing svn://puma/UM_svn/UM but is much shorter and easier to remember)

I also very strongly recommend that you work through the FCM UM Tutorial, which will introduce you to all the basic FCM concepts and how to run a UM job under FCM.

Hope that helps,

Regards,
Ros.
