slow short-job queue

Description

Hi,

I'm just trying to run some small jobs for debugging - they're HadGEM3-A, typically want 8nodes, for at most 10 model days, although typically the error I'm tracking is occurring within the first few hours. The problem I'm having is that if I submit the job during the day it typically will run the compile step, but then won't run the rcf and run steps until sometime during the night, which means I don't see the results 'til the next day, adding the better part of 24 hours into my debug-cycle.

At first I thought this might be because I'd forgotten to change my project code over from n02-ncas to n02-titan, but doesn't seem to have changed anything. These are only short-time jobs, so perhaps I'm in the wrong queue? (I'm currently asking for 1 hour).

We all share the same queues - there are only 3, short, standard and long.

You could try using the short queue - it's currently down but is expected to be back on Thurs. Jobs is the short queue are limited to 8 nodes and 20 min wallclock. See the ARCHER web site and search for short queue
(Short Jobs (-q short): 1-20 minutes, maximum of 8 nodes, 1 job (waiting or running per user), only available 0900-1700 UK time Mon-Fri.)

I doubt you will get 10 model days in this queue, but the first few hours certainly.

Alternatively, you could try to start an interactive session - on the ARCHER website search for "5.4.8 Interactive jobs"
