nudging the new release job 4.0

Reported by: ggxmy Owned by: um_support

Description

Hi. I'm trying to nudge my copy of the new release job xlava (vn8.4 GA4.0 UKCA CheST+GLOMAP-mode for Monsoon). I referred to http://www.ukca.ac.uk/wiki/index.php/Nudging#Getting_Working_at_UM7.3 and my running nudged job tdugq (vn8.4 UKCA CheT+GLOMAP-mode for Monsoon) and used guess work to modify the job. That job is tdvuw and it seems to compile OK but I get an error in reconfiguration. Monsoon:/home/myosh/output/tdvuw000.tdvuw.d15044.t164916.rcf.leave contains messages below.

tdvux is a copy of xlava with some minor modifications and runs fine. Below are the differences from xdvux. Could you help me by checking these and telling me what else I need to do and/or what I have done wrong?

Hi Masaru,

The error is informative:

Model run is set up for 365 day calendar.
Ancillary File is for 360 day calendar.

As you have changed to a 365-day calendar you will need to have ancillary files which are compatible for this. For files which are monthly means you might be OK, but the SSTs and sea-ice ancillaries are daily (360 days). You will need to make these up at least.

I suggest making up new SST and sea-ice datasets and seeing if this works. As a quick test you could turn the 360-day ancillaries into monthly means and make these up again, and try running with those.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Like,

Thank you for your answer.

I didn't take this message quite as it reads for number of reasons. I get these in my running jobs (vn8.4 CheT+UKCA nudged). Also the instruction for nudging vn7.3 says we can keep using ancillary file for 360 day calendar.

So I was thinking that the way to deal with the calendar difference wasn't quite right or sufficient for this version rather than the calendar difference itself is the problem. I included a branch to make the model ignore the calendar differences (vn8.4_ignore_calendar_UKMO) but this is what I was using for CheT and I don't know if it works properly with this version of model. Don't you know of the equivalent one for this version, or anybody who nudged this version (vn8.4 CheST) keeping 360 day calendar?

Well now it sounds like unless I can come up with how to deal with the calendar difference in this version myself, I will need to make 365 day ancillary data…? I'll check how easy/difficult it is to do anyway. Is there a tool to make modifications to ancillaries? xancil?
