Description

Hi Chang (& Lois),

INTERESTING STASH PROBLEM:

I've been trying to make changes to xaemf but something very strange is happening, although I have changed my STASH and have NOT included the old stash, I then save, process, submit and when I run my job but the job outputs the old stash not the new stash - very confusing as this is switched off in the umui! The only other thing is the 2 stash codes I am trying to output (sensible heat flux and soil moisture) have never successfully been outputted for me.

NCAS HELPDESK: I couldn't submit anything via the helpdesk a minute ago… does it have intermitant problems??

cheers, Caroline

Hello Caroline, thanks for sending your xaemf UM basis file, it is much easier to see what you are trying to run especially if the file permissions on HPCx are set so group members can't see them.

If you go to the STASH window for your job and run verify disgnostics (either from the drop menu under the Diagnostics button or using the shortcut cntrl V) then you will see that there is an error in the way you have set up the STASH.

The first diagnostics you want, 3-290, is the sensible heat flux on a tile. You are running the global high resolution model so this only uses 1 tile. So you need to set the domain profile to be on a single or unspecified level and then click on PSEUDO where you need to specify land and vegetation surface types and then fill the table in with your 1 tile. I will return your basis file back to you with these set up.

The global run was set up using Chang-Gui's handedit and automatic resubmisiion (we are investigating why there are memory problems with the high resolution global run), so this job of 2 days would have been run in 4 12 hour chunks. The job was setup to produce boundary conditions for a limited area.

So I am not quite what you want from the global run. Are you running the gloabl run to get diagnostics as well as the boundary conditions, if so these might not be the diagnostics you want? To explore what diagnostics are available in the UM you need to go to the STASH window and click on load new diagnostics under the Diagnostics button. In the diagnostics table you can hunt through the various sections and you can see that there are help pages for some but not all diagnostics. Some of these help pages are not really very helpful, so perhaps you should get back to me if you need more information.

I will email your basis file when I have checked it on HPCx.

Lois
