RDF on ARCHER

Reported by: swr04ojb Owned by: um_support
Component: UM Model Keywords:
Cc: mbollasi Platform: ARCHER
UM Version: 7.8

Description

Hello,

ARCHER announced recently that the RDF was back up, so in response we submitted a short test simulation with post-processing switched back on. I don't think we touched anything else in the post-processing setup. The test simulation crashed, complaining it could not find a program file:

/work/n02/n02/hum/vn7.8/cce/scripts/qsexecute[938]: /usr/sbin/mknod: not found [No such file or directory]
qsexecute: mknod fails to create pipe to archiving system

please see the output file:

~mbollasi/output/xlaxa000.xlaxa.d15082.t164732.leave

Any suggestions on what is going wrong?

cheers,

Oliver and Massimo

Hi

Please confirm that this worked prior to the RDF going down - exactly as set up.

Thanks

Hi Grenville,

this job (xlaxa) points to an executable from a previous job (xlaxb) that we ran before the RDF went down.

xlaxa was not run exactly as setup before the RDF went down. However a diff b/wn xlaxa and xlaxb shows that the only things we have changed are boundary conditions (and run length/wallclock requested), so I would not expect this kind of error.

Is it familiar to you?

We were under the impression that when we change the post-processing configuration in the UMUI we do not need to re-compile model; is that accurate?

Hi Massimo,

You need to rebuild the UM scripts in order to pick up the ARCHER archiving changes.
Go to Compilation & Run options → UM scripts build and turn on Enable build of UM scripts. This will re-build the UM scripts but not the model executable.

Cheers,
Ros.
