Description
Hi CMS
I see in ticket #688 there was some work with vn7.8 and SCM.
If I follow that work will I be able to run a case at vn 8.6 ?
I have doc C09 for vn 10.1 and 7.7 so hope they will help too.
Many thanks,
Mark

I'm not sure - that ticket referred to running the SCM locally - I couldn't get the SCM running with cce on HECToR. We have an external query from a user wanting to run SCM@8.6 locally, so we are looking into this in general. We don't currently have an SCM running on any HPC.

Thanks Grenville.
Now that I have read more of C09 I think that SCM has to be built using the UMUI and it is so small that
one should not try to run it on an HPC system. But I wonder how that works with IBM systems.
Anyway perhaps I just need to know how to target any Linux system. It would be really nice to run it on this desktop system at Leeds for quicker develpment prototyping turnaround.
Perhaps I should ask within the MO ?
Many thanks for replying,
Mark

Not the answer to your query, but FYI:
We have the SCM@UM8.6 running (interactively) on the ARCHER post processor (see rough-ish notes at http://cms.ncas.ac.uk/wiki/Archer/SCM) - we haven't incorporated the process into the UMUI workflow (and aren't likely to), but it's probably not necessary given the ease of usage.

Thank you for this Grenville I will give it a go soon.
I have yet to ask UKCA team if it is possible to do UKCA runs with SCM.

Hi Mark,
You may have some issues getting UKCA to work in the SCM, especially at an older UM version such as 8.6. There are a number of #ifdef statements that involve the SCM and these have meant (in the past) that if UKCA routines/modules are (accidentally) included the model breaks as there are variables that aren't defined at all. This might be improved at later versions as the number of #ifdef statements has decreased, but it may still be an issue.
Thanks,
Luke

I see in the UMUI there are some cases (xlihg) that are set as vn8.6 but I do not know enough
about them.
