Exte nding a UM run

UM Version: 4.5

I've run the v4.5 HadCM3 model on Edinburgh's ECDF for 60 model years and want to extend the same run for another 40. I want to check if the following is precisely correct, as I've not needed to do this before. (Simon and Jeff had been giving support over the last while - but neither seems to be around today.)

I want to use the same exptid to simplify later analysis. The decadal .px… files were created in the first 60 years. The last one was xdkyga.pxj9c10

I therefore:

  1. Copy xdkyg[ao].daj9c10 to my DUMPS directory
  1. Use UMUI to set the start dumps to be xdkyg[ao].daj9c10 and save/process to get a new NRUN.
  1. I can then clear out the DATAM directory (and TMPDIR) - the history and xdkyga_s* files are no longer needed (because the dump files are at the start of a new decade)
  1. Use UMUI to submit the NRUN and subsequent CRUNS (editing SUBMIT).

Above is unnecessary -

  1. UMUI to change the run date, ensure dont recompile
  1. save/process and edit SUBMIT to CRUN

That's fine, isn't it?!

May all your queries be this simplistic

  • Owner changed from um_support to lois
  • Status changed from new to assigned

This should be ok Mike

A CRUN will expect a history file so if you don't have one then it will fail.
I would do the NRUN route first as this sorts out the history files.

Make sure you don't have reconfiguration turned on as well as don't recompile and all should be fine.
