job doesn't open

Dear CMS,

I created a new job teafp yesterday by copying teafo on UMUI, but it does not open from UMUI. When I try to open it, a small window pops up for a moment and disappears. All I can see in the window is letters like "(NONE) and pri". That's all and the UMUI job panel does not show up. The problem persists after I restarted UMUI. Today I'm working from home but the job does not open from here either.

I tried to open a few other jobs and found teafo does not open either. teafo was open when I created teafp but after I closed it yesterday afternoon it has not opened again. Other jobs like teafm and n open.

Something like this has never happened to me before. What can be a cause of this problem? Could you help me resolve it?

Thank you.

Hi Masaru,

I can't open teafo or teafp either. The other jobs seem OK. I would just delete the teafo,p and try again. Check you have enough disk space on PUMA.

Hi Masaru,

We've tracked this down to a problem with the job description. You have exceedingly long job descriptions and although there isn't a maximum limit per se, excessively long ones can cause problems. Some special characters can also cause problems, like apostrophes, unmatched parentheses, etc. We recommend to keep the job description length short enough to easily read in the GUI.

You will need to delete the jobs, assuming it will let you, and then recreate them with a shorter description.

Hi Willie and Ros. Thank you for your help.

Yes, I have disk space on PUMA. Quota on PUMA is what I would check first.

I really want to include those info in the job description. I'm trying to keep it as short as possible. But no choice if it causes an error…

In the future I will try never to forget to export the job and keep basis_jobid file for every job for safety.
