8.2 UKV reconfiguration and run jobs on MONSooN (xkyib and c)

Reported by: fd001150 Owned by: ros
Component: UM Model Keywords: reconfiguration
Cc: Platform: MONSooN
UM Version: 8.2

Description

I'm having a couple of problems running my 8.2 UKV reconfiguration and run jobs on MONSooN (xkyib and c).

When I submit I have the following message:

./REMCOMMS.36620: line 18: 5: Bad file descriptor
./REMCOMMS.36620: line 19: 5: Bad file descriptor

Which I get round by manually submitting stage_1_submit, is there another way round this?

Also when I run xkyib, I get the following error message: (note my reconfiguration and build steps run fine)

? Error in routine: UM_SETUP
? Error Code: 2
? Error Message: READHIST: Read ERROR on history file for namelist NLCHISTG
? Error generated from processor: 0
? This run generated 0 warnings

the full .leave file is located at /home/dflack/output/xkyib000.xkyib.d16032.t151629.leave

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi David,

The problem with the REMCOMMS file was to do with the UMUI which I have now fixed.

The error in the namelist NLCHISTG is due to your job picking up the central set of UM scripts (as it is a run only job) which aren't compatible with your job setup. Please copy the /bin directory from your compile job xkyia into /projects/diamet/dflack/xkyib.

Cheers,
Ros.

[Note for CMS: This problem arises due to the addition of functionality for the Cray to verify that a dump was archived successfully. A new entry was added to the NLCHISTG namelist which requires a different version of some of the small execs (suffix _archupdate). The scripts/execs in $UMDIR/vn8.2/cray expect the extra LASTARCHDMPim item. This change goes hand-in-hand with the fcm:um-br/dev/ros/vn8.2_MetoCray_arch branch.

So, in summary, if you have a run only job that is not archiving you must do a scripts build or copy the /bin directory from the compile job.]

Hi Ros,

thanks for this, with those changes it works fine. I've tried the cutout utility for version 8.2 and it doesn't seem to be working, it gives the following error:

Setting namelist with default options.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!! ERROR ???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!?
? Error in routine: Read_UMHdr
? Error Code: 4
? Error Message: PR_FIXHD: Consistency check
? Error generated from processor: 0
? This run generated 1 warnings
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Has this been set up for the cray yet/if not is there another working version that I would be able to use or do I need to alter something in my .profile?

cheers,
David

Hi David,

The vn8.2 cutout utility was copied from the Met Office Internal Cray so should definitely work.

Please let me know what the command is you are running and from which directory and I will take a look.

Cheers,
Ros.

Hi Ros,

the command I am running is as follows:

/projects/um1/vn8.2/cray/utils/cutout /projects/diamet/dflack/xkyib/xkyiba_pf000 /projects/diamet/dflack/xkyib/xkyiba_pf00.cutout

I've run it from the following directories /projects/um1/vn8.2/cray/utils and also from /projects/diamet/dflack/xkyib and have the same result each time, although it does now seem to have changed to the following error:

/projects/um1/vn8.2/cray/utils/fieldcalc: line 257: 16165: Memory fault
Problem with FIELDCALC program

so could this just be a problem with disk space as I know the diamet project is almost full?

Cheers,
David

Hi David,

Have you renamed /projects/diamet/dflack/xkyib/xkyiba_pf000 to xkyibaold_pf000 or have you moved the original file somewhere else?

Cheers,
Ros.

Hi Ros,

Yes I did re-name to xkyibaold_pf000 - I needed to check something with the model running, so had to run it again, so kept the file but renamed it

Hi David,

Can you try again using the cutout under /projects/um1/vn8.5/cray/utils. I tried it on your file and it appears to work and pumf can read the resulting file ok.

Let me know if that works or not.

Cheers,
Ros.
