Modifying JULES at UM 8.4

Description
Hello,
I'm adding an interactive soil NO emissions scheme to the UM at version 8.4. This scheme would require inputs including soil moisture and temperature (presumably from JULES) and will output NO emissions. I'm wondering how I go about modifying the JULES code used in UM 8.4, so that the NO that is emitted will be processed by UKCA, so I can look at impacts on atmospheric chemistry.
I've created new branches of the UKCA code — is the process similar for JULES?
I see options to specify a path for the JULES repository in FCM Configuration → FCM Options for JULES and Flake. I'm guessing I start a new ticket, create a new branch (what do I specify as the parent?), merge in changes from fcm:jules_tr, and then put the path for my new branch in the window "Include modifications from branches" — is that right?
Thanks,
Claudia

Thanks Grenville. Which version of JULES does UM8.4 correspond to, and where can I find the best reference for describing the model? Is it one of these papers, or do these correspond to a different version of JULES:
Best et al.: The Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES), model description – Part 1: Energy and water fluxes, Geosci. Model Dev., 4, 677–699, doi:10.5194/gmd-4-677-2011, 2011
Clark et al.: The Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES), model description – Part 2: Carbon fluxes and vegetation dynamics, Geosci. Model Dev., 4, 701–722, doi:10.5194/gmd-4-701-2011, 2011
Thank you,
Claudia

Still got it wrong
fcm:jules-tr@um8.4
Your questions are not ones we can answer - I can only suggest you contact one of the scientists above or try the jules web site.

- Keywords JULES added
- Resolution set to answered
- Status changed from new to closed
- UM Version <select version> deleted

You are right - jules works like the UM in respect of code development. I think you can branch from fcm_jules@um8.4
