Hi Ben,

Your data is now on MONSooN in /projects/umadmin/wmcgin/data_xfer. Please copy it to your own work space as soon as possible.

Willie

Hi again Willie,

I'm struggling to reconfigure these EC files. I've not done this before so hopefully the solution is trivial.

I'm using vn10.2 on monsoon. Initially recon failed as there were soil and snow variables that could not be found. I fixed this by including the appropriate ancil files. Now I get another error:

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!! ERROR ???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!???!!!
? Error code: 10
? Error from routine: Rcf_Locate
? Error message: Unable to Rcf_Locate field with STASHcode 0 12
? Error from processor: 0
? Error number: 1098
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

which is a little confusing since earlier in the output file is the line:

Set to Zero, field 8 ( Section 0 ) ( Stashcode 12 ) QCF AFTER TIMESTEP

so QCF does appear to be being initialised, but then can't be found later. The suite is u-ae294 and the stdout file is /home/bharv/cylc-run/u-ae294/log/job/1/recon/02/job.out

Thanks for your help!

Ben

Hi Ben,

There are a few issues here. The GRIB API for 10.x jobs is not currently implemented on MONSooN, so it is not possible to reconfigure GRIB2 files. Your job does work if you use a UM file though. So, I created a UM8.2 job to reconfigure the GRIB2 files on ARCHER (xmwja). However, while this works for 2014 GRIB2 files, it does not for 201509, which are extremely large (1.1GB at 1440x721). So in the end, I decided to get you UM files for the dates you requested. These are on MONSooN in /projects/umadmin/wmcgin/data_xfer. If you can make use of these, please copy them to your own work space as soon as possible.

Hi Willie,

Thanks for looking into this, and trying to find a work around.

It's unfortunate that the recent EC files can't be used. We would like to compare UM runs with another model started from EC data, hence trying to get the EC files in the first place.

Might retrieving a truncated version of the EC data be an option? We're only running the UM at N320 so the high resolution details are probably not important in this case.

Thanks for getting the UM files, I have those already so you can remove those files now.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

I got my ARCHER reconfig job xmwjb to work and I have converted the original GRIB files and transferred them to MONSooN. They are in /projects/umadmin/wmcgin/data_xfer and have the ".um2" extension.

Hi Willie,

That's great news. I've copied those files over and my 10.2 suite reconfigures them with no problems - many thanks for getting to the bottom of this!
