gcylc does not update status

Hi, noticed that in several of my running suites gcylc GUI does not change status when the task is completed. The status will remain as 'submitted' even when looking at the job status file shows me that it actually has completed already successfully. u-ag542 shows currently still install_ancil as submitted but this task has completed.

It has updated the status now with a delay of 15 mins or so. In other suites it didn't do so. I noticed a similar issue with ticket no #1888. Shall I set export CYLCVERSION=next in .bashrc?

Hi Marcus,

On PUMA/ARCHER the method Cylc uses to determine a task has finished is different from on MONSooN due to way ARCHER is configured. On PUMA cylc polls ARCHER every 5 minutes to see if the task has finished, so you may experience a delay of 5 minutes from when the task finishes running on ARCHER and when the Cylc GUI is updated. You can, however, manually poll a task if you know it has already finished running. Right-click on the task in the GUI and select "Poll".

Looking at your suite u-ag542 (/home/marcus/cylc-run/u-ag542/log/job/19880901T0000Z/install_ancil/01/job-activity.log) I can see that the task was submitted at 2016-09-23T14:26:34 and then Cylc polled once at 2016-09-23T14:31:39 detecting the task had completed, causing the logs to be retrieved and the GUI to be updated.

The issue raised in #1888 was due to setup problems on MONSooN, so please don't set CYLC_VERSION.

We have seen occasions recently when the GUI doesn't update and manually polling doesn't work either, but as yet have not been able to identify a cause.
