files overwritten by gui?

Description

HI,

When I was doing UKCA tutorial 4-5, I added following lines to rose-suite.conf

[file:app/um/file/STASHmaster]
source=fcm:um.xm_br/dev/masaruyoshioka/vn10.4_Tutorial/rose-meta/um-atmos/HEAD/etc/stash/STASHmaster@HEAD

and the following to rose-app.conf using a text editor on puma.

STASHMSTR=STASHmaster

But when I ran the model, it failed with error message

Cant find required STASH item 64 section 34 model 1 in STASHmaster

I noticed that the lines above had disappeared. So I added those lines back again and the model ran OK. But when I ran the model for the next task, it failed with the same problem, and these lines had gone again!

So I guess rose-suite.conf and rose-app.conf are somehow being overwritten. Do you have any advice on how I can prevent these lines from being overwritten?

Thank you.

Hi Masaru,

A common mistake is to edit the files under ~/cylc-run/ rather than ~/roses/. They look similar but you should only edit the roses files as the cylc-run files are re-generated when you submit a run.

Also, you do need to be careful about editing the rose-app.conf file directly and through the GUI at the same time. The rose editor GUI takes the state of the suite files when it was launched, so any changes outside the GUI will be lost if you then save the suite through the GUI. But the GUI won't remove your changes as long as you add the lines in before you launch it.

Thank you Annette.

The rose editor GUI takes the state of the suite files when it was launched!!'''

That means I should relaunch rose edit every time after I modify rose-suite.conf, rose-app.conf and possibly other files. I'll make this a habit.

Thanks a lot.
