Removing UKCA

Reported by: s1016670 Owned by: um_support

Description

Hello,

I am trying to create a specified chemistry version (xmslk) of a UKCA run (xmslj). I've turned off UKCA in the UMUI and removed all section 34 items from STASH. I've put in the ozone climatology Ancil, I've managed to create a start dump which has the same fields (149 of them) as other vn7.3 specified chemistry dumps that I find searching around in umui. However, I get a good ol' segmentation fault when I run.

Presumably someone must have done this before with the atmosphere-only configuration of the model (no ocean)- am I missing some sort of trivial step/ previous ticket which has covered this? I can't find any instructions on how to remove UKCA from a model configuration.

Hi Cameron,

At vn7.3 it's very difficult to extract UKCA correctly. It's easier to start with a job that never had UKCA in at all and then add-in what you need. Are you just trying to change the ozone ancillary? Why do you need the other fields? If you remove the fields from STASH then they also need to be removed from the dump.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

I want a vn7.3 job with the climatological ozone (using the ancillary I've made), but with all other forcings climatologically identical to the UKCA job. Is this possible?

Yes, this is, but I'll need to find an equivalent atmosphere-only job. Can you give me the runid?

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

The jobid is xmslk, trying to replicate UKCA job xmslj. Also if it helps, I want a comparison like xirra is to xhnyp, but without an ocean and that runs on ARCHER.

Hi Cameron,

It's a bit tricky tracking this job down. Please be patient. It may be that xeoza is a good a job as any to compare to. You'd need to do make the changes for ARCHER, but that would be a possible.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

Would it be advisable for me to start trying to make this job run on ARCHER?

Hi Luke,

Using the jobid xmslo, I've gone ahead and converted xeoza to a copy of the UKCA job, and it is running. It didn't produce any STASH output because of current RDF issues & selected archiving, but a series of outputted startdumps indicate is has Nran for ~2 years without issue.

Thanks,
Cameron

Hi Luke,

The STASH issue wasn't anything to do with the RDF, but rather my choices in the UMUI- nothing to do with this ticket. Its working now, jobid is xmslo (from UKCA xmslj), so I suppose you can close the ticket.

Hi Cameron,

That's great - I'm glad it's working.
