access to um 7.0

Description (last modified by ros)

Hi again,

I would now like to try to compile um version 7.0 (and eventually get Jules linked with it) and have some associated questions.

1: Should I still use the fcm:um_br/pkg/Share/VN7.0_QESM branch as previously suggested?

2: I can extract a working copy to $HOME on puma but would like to extract a working copy direct to my remote machine. Could you advise if/how I can do this (e.g. use the svn+ssh protocol)?. I tried doing this earlier but failed as I did not know the absolute path of the repository.

3: Assuming I can get a copy of the source as a working copy remotely, could you advise on how I go about compiling and running UM7.0 - I'm afraid it is not clear to me from a brief look at the distribution on puma.

4: If I get passed all this then how do you suggest I work. Should I create a development branch and make modifications on that?

5: I strongly believe that Jules should be kept as a separate project to the UM project. Are you happy with this and if so can you advise on how to add such a beast on puma (do I have appropriate permissions to do a simple svn import for example)?

Many thanks

— Rupert

Hi Rupert,

I see you're burning the midnight oil then … ;-)

In answer to your first question. I have vn7.0 on the trunk so you should use the URL fcm:um with the revision keyword vn7.0 However, unless there is a specific reason why you want to use vn7.0, it would be good if you could move to vn7.1 as we're not going to support vn7.0 and QESM will be using vn7.1

Qn 2: I haven't tried this but I'm sure this is possible, not sure on response times though. You will need to have FCM on your system so if you haven't already got it then you can retrieve the tar ball /home/ros/cd_6.3/fcm_release_1-3.tar from PUMA, there is a README in there which should tell you everything you need to know. I'll email you the actual location of the UM repository separately.

I'll think about the other questions while we get this step up and running.
