JASMIN-JULES suite failing spinup

Reported by: webber24 Owned by: ros
Component: JULES Keywords: JASMIN, JULES
Cc: Platform: Other
UM Version: 4.7

Description

I have a suite (u-ak720) on rose that is attempting to access a JULES executable (vn4.8) on a group workspace (clifftop).

I am running on JASMIN and two errors I receive are the following:

tail: cannot open `/home/users/cwebber/cylc-run/u-al720/log/job/1/spinup_00/01/job.err' for reading: No such file or directory
tail: cannot open `/home/users/cwebber/cylc-run/u-al720/log/job/1/spinup_00/01/job.out' for reading: No such file or directory

I'm unsure as to why it is looking in this directory, considering that I have set the output directory as:

BSUB_LOG_DIR = /work/scratch/cwebber/CLIFFTOP/MOC15

Any Thoughts on how to get past this?

Chris

Hi Chris,

The Cylc GUI and rose bush are setup to look for the log files in a standard place. I.e. the locations specified above. I would recommend not overriding the output location and let cylc create them in the standard locations. This has the added advantage that subsequent retries of running the suite don't overwrite the previous log files.

The job log files for this submission are actually where you have asked it to go under /work/scratch/cwebber/CLIFFTOP/MOC15.

Ros.

Hi Ros,

Ahhh I'm sure I looked before (obviously not in the right place) and couldn't find them.

Now on to the main issue, have you seen this error (in the .err file) before and if so would you know what it relates to?

All the best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

We've not run JULES within the Rose/Cylc framework here yet, however, I can tell you the rose-jules-run that it can't find will be a script that it's expecting to be installed as part of the build. So it will be looking for that in a sub-directory of the suite. You're trying to run from an existing executable so you won't have run the build hence the failure.

Are you following any Rose/Cylc JULES instructions? If so could you point me to them please.

Cheers,
Ros.

Hi Ros,

I'm not following a specific set of guidelines, so I can't point you to anything specific. Despite this, I built the model (to install rose-jules-run) and the first spinup has successfully run.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Glad you're up and running now.

In case it's useful I did have a quick look around and found quite a bit of information on the MOSRS JULES wiki page.

Regards,
Ros.
