#223 closed error (fixed)

Error code 2 when running 4km mesoscale model with startdump

Reported by: bethan.white Owned by: willie
Component: UM Model Keywords: Error code 2
Cc: sws97hwl@… Platform:
UM Version: 6.1

I have been trying to run the standard 4km run (100x100x38 for 1km Wessex) from the nested series of LAMs for Hector. I have a startdump and LBCs from Humphrey Lean which I am trying to use with this run. I have updated my umui setup to match Humphrey's basis file, recreated my ancillary files to match this, and have tried to run with reconfiguration switched on.

The ancillary files have 17748 land points and my umui setup is set to 18095 to match Humphrey's start dump.

When I ran this, I got an Error code 2 in my .leave file: error in chk_look_bounda

Does this mean the LBC file I have been given is not compatible?

The job is xdluh and the relevant .leave file is xdluh000.xdluh.d09019.t151813.leave

Hi Bethan,

I'll have a look at this. What is your user name on HECToR?

Hi Willie,

My username is eebaw.

I have changed the file permissions on my .leave file for you.

Hi Bethan,

A little later on in the leave file it says,

Wrong number of LBC variables found in LBC file
Expecting record 14 to contain STASH item code 31002
But found item code 31020

and looking at the LBC file with xconv shows that the last field is 31020. Humphrey suggests that the basis file contains the broad outline and that you should review the aerosol and "convective anvil" settings, whatever they are.

I hope this helps.

Hi Willie,

Gerry and I still haven't been able to get this job to work. We've also tried taking the standard 12 km job and ran this using the startdump and lbcs from the hpcx Mesoscale directory, however this hasn't worked either.

We are now thinking of starting from the global run instead. Would you be able to generate a global startdump for 24/06/2005? If so, do you need me to provide any more information for you?

I can get QU06 on that day from the Met Office. There is a bit of a queue in getting data at the moment, so it may be Monday 26th Jan before you get it. I hope that is OK.

That would be great, thanks Willie.

Hi Bethan,
I have put your start dump on HECToR under $UMDIR/vn6.1/dumps/weather/raw_dumps.

Hi Willie, thanks for that.

We are looking at a storm that initiated at about 0900. I am now wondering whether the 06T+3 startdump might be too late for this. Is there anything earlier than this available from the Met Office that might be of use?

Hi Bethan,

I have put QU06 on 23/06/2005 in the same directory. If you need further help on this, please let me know.
