change stdout/stderr

What is the proper way to change the location of the stdout/stderr files in a rose/cylc run, from their standard location in the cylc-run subdirectories?

My stdout/stderr files sometimes are 100's of MB in size, and they quickly eat into my 10000MB quota on CEDA Jasmin. I changed the location of them with -o and -e flags in my suite.rc file to go to the scratch disk. This works, mostly. But it has the disadvantage that when I click on the stdout or stderr menu option in the gcylc Xwindows GUI, then the gcylc GUI doesn't know where the log files are located. This means that I need to go to the command line to search for them on the scratch disk. It also has the disadvantage that the older log files for a suite that is run more than once are not compressed and archived, but instead they are appended to.

I think it is best to continue to use my cylc-run directories in my home directory, despite the quota, as long as I can put the log files elsewhere. This is as opposed to moving the whole cylc-run directory to the scratch disk, because there is no backup of the scratch disk, and the info in these cylc-run directories is useful to keep in the longer term.

Hi Patrick,

Unfortunately it is not possible to change the location of just the log directories. You can change the location of the top-level cylc-run/<suite-id> or the /share and /work directories but that is all Rose/Cylc caters for. See "Configuring install root locations" section in the Rose documentation

The only other option we can think of is to use the built-in rose-arch app (See Rose documentation) to archive the log files to another disk. Some UM suites are setup to do this.
