#23 closed defect (worksforme)

Logging in has no effect in accessing UMDPs

Reported by: ingram@… Owned by: ros
Component: Website Keywords:
Cc: apm@… Platform:
UM Version:

Description

At
http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=38
I see nothing listed under "Documents", & it says "If this category appears empty then
you haven't logged in." When I go through the motions of logging in & it says "You have
successfully logged in" I get exactly the same… I tried hitting "reload" in case my
browser wasn't picking up changes, but that made no difference.

(I've just emailed um_support@… & got a "Not back till 15th" automatic reply
from c.g.wang@….)

Hi William,

I'm at a loss as to what could be wrong as it's working fine for me and I've also tested it works from outside the Reading firewall. I understand you are using firefox which is the same as here.

Could you tell me if you can access the UM user guides (4.5/5.5) on the following page which are available by clicking [more information..] links just above the UM Spatial Resolution section?
http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=67&Itemid=26

Also have you been able to access the documents via this new setup before?

Regards,
Ros.

Yes, version 1.0.4.

Yes, I could. (Before I logged in the link-to-be was grey & didn't show
up in the bottom bar as I ran the cursor over it, after it was blue & did,
& I could access the file fine.)
But when I had done so & went back to the UMDP page, I again got "you need
to log in" & after doing so & being told I had done so, again got no change.

No, I'm pretty sure I haven't tried before.
I wonder if there's an interaction with some eccentricity of Oxford
Physics's connexion to the outside world, which Physics Computing are
wont to tweak… can you tell if anyone has from an AOPP IP address
recently?

Ok so that proves that the login part of the site works.

Could you go to
http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_login&Itemid=1
and login as umdoc

Then go to the following page
http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=39

What to you get?? (I'm hoping a page that has a heading Categories with Scientific & Technical listed beneath it plus under the heading Documents the UM User Guide)

→ and login as umdoc

That gives me a page which says
"You are currently Logged In to the private area of this site "
& only offers the option "Logout"

  • well, if I click on that & then enter that webaddress again, I get

a log-in page & it then proceeds to
http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/
so going to

http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=39

DOES now give me

→ a page that has a heading Categories with
→ Scientific & Technical listed beneath it plus under the heading Documents
→ the UM User Guide)

And I can get to the UMDPs… only the bl one, the one I wanted, is
missing from the list (24, I guess). But I can download a random one.

Does that explain everything so someone like you cleverer than me?

If that works then there is no logical reason why the original entry link

http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=38

you used initially shouldn't work. It uses exactly the same mechanism - just takes you into the document hierarchy two levels higher up displaying the category options of UM Version 4.5 and UM Version 5.5, plus the link to login if you aren't already.

I'll have to give this some more thought.

I'll have a look and see if we have UMDP 24 for vn4.5. If they're not available on the site then it usually means we haven't been given it by the Met Office.

We don't have UMDP24 for vn4.5, however we do have it for version 5.5
See the following page (fingers crossed!)

  • Cc apm@… added
  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from assigned to closed

I have checked the login mechanism/download of UM Docs on a variety of platforms/browsers and there has been no problem.

Tests run successfully on the following (all outside of the Reading Firewall):

Unix - Firefox
Windows - IE, Firefox
Linux - Firefox
Mac - Firefox, Opera, Safari, Netscape, Camino

For information I stress that the "Note: Login required.." message does NOT
disappear when you have logged in, but you should now have listed above it
2 categories called "UM Version 4.5" and UM Version 5.5". Select the relevant UM version to drill down to the technical and system documents.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
