EMS Atmospheric configuration

as part of the NERC funded ICE-IMPACT project we promised we would do some work with ESM1. We need to do some development soon with the aim of doing "production" runs in May/June?. I plan to write a case for ARCHER time likely for <10 M AU for the next allocation meeting.

However, for development I have two questions:
1) What is the recommended atmospheric configuration?
2) Could we have a small amount of resource (enough to run 1-2 years of simulation) till April?

The final UKESM configuration has not yet been released. The physical model has been and the PMIP group are working with it now. We have an earlier UKESM suite which we ran for 10 yrs on ARCHER (back in Sept), but how UKESM has changed in the interim is not known.

I'm not sure if either of those would be suitable - it might be better to contact Jeremy Walton or Alistair Sellar at the MO to get a better answer.

We're happy to allocate AUs for testing.

Dear Grenville,

thanks. I will get in touch with Jeremy and Alistair. I think we want the physical component at N96. To start with just the atmospheric model…

I think we want to use version 7.1. Is there a default ROSE/etc configuration to start with?

There are may suites GA7.1 in the repository - we don't have one specifically. u-au076 (HadGEM3-GA7.1 N96 AMIP CMIP6) looks like a candidate. The suite is not ported to ARCHER but has some multi-platform support. I believe Mike is looking at exactly this porting issue for a different suite, so might have already figured out hoe to do it.
