Description
Dear Helpdesk,
I've a bunch of netcdf data on Archer - from which I have extracted a subset of data and transferred to Edinburgh. How do I archive all this data for long term storage. I think I would want to use the JASMIN elastic tape storage. Simulations were done as part of Gabi Hegerl's TITAN project.
thanks
Simon

Hi Grenville,
that sounds like I don't do anything right now. I'll contact Sam to see if BADC interested in long-term archive. As project funded by ERC I can imagine he might not be…
But I am thinking ahead a bit — what happens when ARCHER goes in December/Jan??

The future of the RDF is uncertain, but JASMIN phase 4 has the capacity to absorb RDF data in any case.

Elastic tape is a good place to put data, but it is not curated and thus doesn't constitute an archive as such. Please contact Sam Pepler (sam.pepler@…) at CEDA for help with true archiving.
If this has to be done now, you will need first to get a group workspace (https://help.jasmin.ac.uk/article/4467-request-gws) from which data can be staged on its way to ET. A nominated gws manager will have permissions to write to ET.
In the not too distant future, it will be possible to move data directly to ET from ARCHER - I recommend, if possible, waiting until this capability is available. We are not short of RDF space.
