Running a standard suite

Reported by: laurahb Owned by: ros
Component: Rose/Cylc Keywords: budgets
Cc: Platform: ARCHER
UM Version:

I've copied the standard HadGEM suite u-ab878@32706 (my suite ID is u-ay059) and tried to run it.
I'm a bit confused by what's happened: if I check the status it says that it has failed tasks (although I can't work out exactly what task has failed) but it also appears to still be running: it says
Suite has failed tasks, is running on puma:7777, last activity 19 hours ago

  • does this mean it's still running or it's waiting for me to fix whatever has failed before it can continue?

Sorry if these are stupid questions - Rose is all completely new to me and I can't find any documentation specifically about troubleshooting problems with a run.

Hi Laura,

The install_ancil task has failed because,

(login8.archer.ac.uk) 2018-05-24T16:33:39+01 [STDERR] qsub: User lbaker is not a member of budget n02-cms

You'll need to change the account code to yours in suite conf "UM Hosts" page of the rose editor.

The Rose/Cylc? training notes can be found at http://cms.ncas.ac.uk/wiki/UmTraining/April2018. It's worth browsing through this.

Thanks. Would my account code be just n02 or n02-something? I tried just n02 but it said "budget n02 does not have enough resource (0.000 kAU remaining, 1.000 kAU required)"
I assume this means I should be part of a specific project - is this something I need to apply separately for?

  • Keywords budgets added

Hi Laura,

If you type

you'll get a list of accounts that you can use if you have enough resources left. If they all show zero, then you need to find an existing account, or apply for a new account. Applying for a new account is an onerous task involving filling out NERC forms - see http://www.archer.ac.uk/access/#nerc and follow the links.

Hi Laura,

Grenville is currently away but I do have access to the archer budgets… Are you working on a particular NERC grant? If so which and I'll add you to the appropriate group. If not that's fine, just let me know and I'll add you to the general NCAS one and Grenville can sort it out on his return!

Hi Ros,
Thanks, I'm working on the IMPETUS project, which is NERC funded.

Hi Laura,

Sorry somehow missed your response. :-(
Project doesn't appear to list separately so I've just added you to 'n02-ncas' and I will discuss with Grenville on Monday. If you need to change budget codes I'll let you know.
