Pointing to branches

Description

Hi,
I'm trying to reduce the amount I have on PUMA as it's near my quota. It seems like one way to do this is to delete working copies after committing changes to the trunk, and then point to the branch within the suite. However, I'm unsure how to find out what to point to. If I do fcm branch-info I get this:

URL: https://code.metoffice.gov.uk/svn/roses-u/a/z/9/9/0/trunk
Repository Root: https://code.metoffice.gov.uk/svn/roses-u
Revision: 88212

but I think I need something in the format
branches/dev/laurahb/<something>@88212

Also if I do this and then want to make further changes can I get my working copy back? Would I have to check out the suite again?

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

I'm a little confused with what you're asking, so hope the following is of use….

Your code branches, for example UM, will be created by default under:
https://code.metoffice.gov.uk/svn/um/main/branches/dev/laurabaker/vnX.Y_<branch_name>
so once you've checked in the changes to your branch you can point your suite to it by entering branches/dev/laurabaker/vnX.Y_<branch_name>@rev in the fcm_make_um → sources panel under um_sources variable. You can then delete the code branch working copy.

With suites once you've checked in all the changes and you're not planning on running it for a while, yes you can delete the working copy under ~/roses and then just rosie checkout <suiteid> when you want to work with it again.

The cylc-run directory on PUMA is the main place where disk space gets eaten up because log files are copied over from ARCHER. Once you are finished with the suite (ie. don't need to restart it) you can delete the ~/cylc-run/<suiteid> directory.

Does that help?

Cheers,
Ros.

Ok thanks, it sounds like deleting working copies is something I wouldn't do until I've finished running the suites then.
In that case can I request more quota on PUMA? I've deleted everything I can (including all the tarred-up log files and all the ~/cylc-run/<suite-id>/share/fcm_make_um/.fcm_make directories) but am still reaching the quota, and soon I'll be running more suites in addition to these which will use yet more space. It's currently 2000000, could this be increased to 3000000 or 4000000? I should only need it for a few months until I've finished these runs.

Thanks,

Laura

I'll close this ticket now. Request for disk space handled in #2593.

Ros.
