Ensemble nesting suite in Archer

Reported by: amenon Owned by: willie
Component: UM Model Keywords: ensemble nesting suite
Cc: Platform: ARCHER
UM Version: 10.9

I am now up to run an ensemble nesting suite in Archer. But that needs to set up the Archer site specific details. The suite I will be running is u-ba734 in my roses directory which is a copy of u-at734 which is tested in the Met Office system. Could you please help me with the technical set up for running this in Archer? Details on running ensemble nesting suite is here: in case you need to have a look at it. Many thanks.

Hi Arathy,

The first step is to add in a site file for ARCHER. This contains ARCHER specific information. A good start is my ncas-cray-xc30 in suite u-ba621, which is my ARCHER Nesting suite 2018. So copy this directory and its contents into your site directory.

Then edit your meta/rose-meta.conf file to add it in. Change

value-titles=Please select,Met Office,MONSooN

value-titles=Please select,Met Office,MONSooN,ARCHER XC30

Then, at the bottom of your suite.rc file add

{# Site-specific details that add to (or override) the core suite definition. #}
{% include 'site/' + SITE + '/suite-adds.rc' %}

We then need to add an option in the install_cold app to deal with the location of files on ARCHER. So

cd app/install_cold/opt
cp rose-app-monsoon-cray-xc40.conf rose-app-archer-cray-xc30.conf

Then edit rose-app-archer-cray-xc30.conf and replace every instance of /projects/um1 with $UMDIR.

If you do fcm status in your suite directory this will show the files you've just added, but with a status of ?. You then need to fcm add them.

When you start up rose edit you should then be able to select ARCHER XC30 and enter your ARCHER user name and account code and run it. There are probably other things that need changing but this is a good start.

Would it be possible for this suite to run on NEXCS (NERC partition of the XCS) — if so, that might make for an easier port.

What project will you be running under?

Thanks Willie.

Grenville, I will be running this under the incompass project. We were thinking of running this in Archer where I have the initial data, my other suites etc. I will get back to you regarding this after talking to Andy and Stu.
