Long hindcast runs: outputting latter part of forecast to minimise data volume

Hi helpdesk,

I am trying to set up a long (multi-year) hindcast run at the moment, and I am wondering how to minimise the amount of data produced. I am currently initialising the global driving model every 24 hours and running the forecasts for 48 hours. Is there an easy way to output just the t+24 to t+48 section of the forecast in the output streams or time profiles (for instance, do I set the istr variable to 24 in the time profile?) I have tried to get my head around this but haven't managed to figure it out myself.

istr and iend specify when to start and stop output for a time profile (in units of unt3). If I understand correctly, you will need to set these two for all time profiles, istr=24 iend=48 (but if your run is only 48 hrs, you could leave this as -1.)

I suggest you try it out on a short run for a single time profile, set istr=1, iend=2 or some other times consistent with the time profile so see restricted output.

Hi Grenville,

Thanks for the quick reply. I will give this a go now and let you know how it goes.
