Description

jasmin-sci2.ceda.ac.uk is unresponsive this morning. However, when I log-on to jasmin-cylc.ceda.ac.uk, I cannot launch iPython.

Is it possible to set up iPython on jasmin-cylc.ceda.ac.uk? or is there any other python interpreter possibel on jasmin-cylc.ceda.ac.uk?

Hi Noel,

Try logging into one of the other science nodes and running ipython there. Here is the listing of what is available at the loads on them this morning. jasmin-sci2 looks to have been rebooted around 45 minutes ago.

jasmin-sci2.ceda.ac.uk 12 24.8G 35.0%

jasmin-sci4.ceda.ac.uk 16 15.5G 57.0%
jasmin-sci5.ceda.ac.uk 11 22.0G 37.0%
jasmin-sci6.ceda.ac.uk ? 292.6G 67.0%

Noel:
The official CEDA JASMIN policy is that jasmin-cylc should be used primarily for submitting Rose Cylc jobs. They don't have everything enabled on jasmin-cylc in order to prevent people from doing things besides submitting Rose Cylc jobs on jasmin-cylc. This probably includes some interactive versions of python or particular libraries within python. The VM jasmin-cylc may not have as many cores or memory available to it as compared to the jasmin-sci* nodes.
