scratch space on PUMA

Description (last modified by pmcguire)

Hi
It looks like I keep running out of space in my home directory on PUMA (1GB is the maximum) whenever I try to run more than 1 Archer suite at a time. The ~/cylc-run/u-bp790 directory can reach at least 0.3GB in size. Can I redirect some of this to scratch (like on JASMIN)? Can you create a scratch directory for me somewhere? Or tell me where it is?

I see the default environment variable:
export SCRATCH=/export/puma/data-01/training/$USER
Will setting this variable help me?

I tried
mkdir /export/puma/data-01/training/pmcguire
and
mkdir /export/puma/data-01/pmcguire,
but I don't have permissions to do that.
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The SCRATCH you refer to above is not the same as on JASMIN. It is there for suites (mainly coupled) configured to temporarily extract source code to and then automatically tar up/compress and move back to the user's cylc-run directory. I can tell you how to implement this in your suite to save some space if you feel it would help.

You currently have over 80 suites checked out (and their corresponding cylc-run directories) many which don't look to have been edited/run in 2 years these should be checked in/deleted/archived. Can't remember if I suggested this before or not - if you are just tweaking a few parameters in each suite and want to keep a record of each then create the "master" suite (rosie copy) and then create a branch of the suite in the repository for each variation; that way you'll keep them altogether in the repository and not generate loads of new suite ids.

I'll leave Andy to say if we have a suitable scratch space available and to deal with quota increase.

Cheers,
Ros.

Hi Patrick,

I have increased your home directory quota on puma from 1GB to 3GB and also made you a /export/puma/data-01/scratch/pmcguire scratch directory.

Cheers
Andy
