cannot log onto PUMA

Hi there, I failed to log onto PUMa after a long time of not using this machine. The message I got is shown below. Note, I can successfully log onto ARCHER from my BAS machine using the newly created passphrase and password as required. I am not sure if this problem is due to the new changes made. I then tried to log onto PUMA from a terminal of my own Mac laptop, this time I was asked to input the password for PUMA, but it seemed the password I normally used did not work (but I am not 100% I used the correct PW) and told me that the 'Permission denied'. Can you help?

Hi Xin,

We had to reset user passwords because of the issues at Archer. I will send you your new one by separate email. You didn't get this email as we didn't have your latest email address.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for the help. I can now log onto my PUMA account (from both my institute machine and my own laptop machine). However, I met a new problem in submitting a job to UKCA using UMUI (see the error message shown below). This problem seems relevant to the new password and passphrase changed. May be if I need to raised a new ticket for this problem.

ERROR: login.archer.ac.uk: Permission denied while attempting to access account emxin on host login.archer.ac.uk. Note that repeated failures may result in expiry of password due to security procedures on some machines. Check user id, hostname and password for your account on the host machine.

Hi Xin,

Please see the announcement on our website (http://cms.ncas.ac.uk/blog/2020-05-26-) which you would also have missed by email. Setup your ~/.ssh/config as detailed and then login to ARCHER before submitting your UMUI job.
