Description

Hello
We routinely convert output to 32bit PP files using ff2pp.
I;ve two simple questions please:

  1. My understanding is that cumf is not meant to work on these.

Please can you tell me: what is the best way to compare two runs' outputs in 32bit pp format, please? (Up to now I;ve always done such tests prior to PP conversion but now need to do it after that conversion)

  1. May I check please:

I note that "PP Packing does NOT work on HECToR."
http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php/um-faq/1425-pp-packing-on-hector. But this is PP used in a different context to that of ff2pp, isn't it?! I.e. we use ff2pp to make 32bit pp files on Hector and I think that is fine.

Regards
Mike

Thanks
Mike

Hello Mike,

1) You are right there are no tool to compare PP files however you could convert your 32 bit PP files to netcdf and use a tool like ncdiff

2) You are right again, this packing, which actiually now does work on HECToR as Jeff Cole has fixed the code ,is nothing to do with the conversion from UM to PP files.
