Error code 20 in UM 6.1 Global job to output 12km LBCs

Description

Hi,

I've got a global UM 6.1 job that I am trying to run to output a set of 12km LBCs. The job is xfhib. I have run the job successfully without LBC output, but since modifying it to output LBCs I now get the following error message:

Routine generating error: IntfCtl?
Error code: 20
Error message:
Vertical Levels Namelist file does not exist!

I've checked that the vertlevs file for both the global job and that to be used in the LBCs exists in the specified directory. Do I need to include another file?

The .leave file is xfhib000.xfhib.d10278.t094951.leave

Thanks,
Bethan.

Hello Bethan,

I think that this in an unfortunate feature of the UM. You have specified the vertical levels files in the UMUI

atmosphere→ model resolution→ vertical

but when you define the LBCs out section

atmosphere→ control → output data → LBCs out → vert

you have left it as the 'set G3' rather than the 'user defined set' which will not work as the path for the defined set is hardwired to a Met Office directory and therefore can not be found. Try setting it to the user defined set and hopefully this should now run.

Hi Lois,

I'd actually already tried it with the user defined set, pointing to /work/n02/n02/hum/vn6.1/ctldata/vert (the same folder as the pointer in the model resolution > vertical section), but it didn't work, so I tried using the set G3 option instead.

I've checked in /work/n02/n02/hum/vn6.1/ctldata/vert and both files are there (vertlevs_strat_50 for the vertical levels in the global model, and vertlevs_G3 which I have specified for the LBCs).

Thanks,
Bethan.

Hello Bethan,

If I look on PUMA at your directory /home/bethan.white/umui_jobs/xfhib I can still see that in the namelist CNTLATM the variable INTF_VERTLEVS has the wrong path in it.

If I copy your job and save all the windows where the vertical levels are set for the LBCS and then save and process my job then the path is correct.

So I suggest you save everything agin in your job xfhib and then check that you have the right path in CNTLATM before you submit the job. If the paths are ok in the namelist it should work!
