PP file utilites require Sun runtime libs

Description

I'm trying to use the PP file utilities on this site (http://ncas-cms.nerc.ac.uk/index.php/tools-and-utilities/um-tools/1363), specifically pp_rdiff, but cannot get it to run on any of HECToR, the MONSooN postproc or a local x86_64 machine:

$ ./pp_rdiff_x86_64
./pp_rdiff_x86_64: error while loading shared libraries: libmtsk.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This appears to be a runtime library specific to the Sun Studio compiler suite, and not available on most Linux systems — is there source or a non-Sun build available, or is this library allowed to be redistributed with the utilities?

I've also tried the i386 version, but this appears to be built for Solaris i386 rather than Linux i386, although the download page is unclear on this point.

FWIW, no symbols actually seem to be required from this library, and a dummy library created with

gcc -shared -o libmtsk.so.1 /dev/null

allows the x86_64 build to run…

Hi Zak,

Thanks for the update. It is always difficult to deliver software for a variety of operating systems and compilers. I think it would be better if I gave the source code and a makefile instead of binaries. Then a knowledgeable local person could adapt them to their own systems.

Regards,

Willie
