Error code 10 - date mismatch - XFIIA

Reported by: danpeake Owned by: willie
Component: UM Model Keywords:
Cc: Platform:
UM Version: 6.1

Description

I'm trying to run a LAM for 4 days, and I get the following error:

ERROR!!! in reconfiguration in routine Rcf_Aux_File
Error Code:- 10
Error Message:- Date information mismatch between aux and dump files
Error generated from processor 0

I've looked at the start dump date and the start date of the model run and they seem to be the same time, 13/07/00 at 00Z. I'm not sure what else to look at. What could be causing this date mismatch?

Sorry to ask hopefully quite a trivial question!
Dan

Hi Dan,

In the start date and run length panel of the UMUI you have specified the start date as 13/07/2004. I think this can be set to all zeroes, or else it has to agree with the start dump.

Regards,

Willie

Whoops - I meant 13/07/2004 (not 2000) as the run date. As far as I'm aware both the start dump and start date in the UMUI panel are both 13/07/2004 at 00Z - so I don't understand what's causing the mismatch.

Having said that, I've just realised what the problem probably is - I need to also have a tracer ancilliary dump that starts at 13/07/2004 00Z. I will let you know how this goes.

Having changed the tracer source date to 00Z on 13/07/04 I'm still getting the same error of a date mismatch between aux and dump files. Any thoughts as to why the run is crashing?

Hi Dan,

Looking in your .leave file we have

LOOKUP TABLE
      256 64-bit words long
Mismatch in date info for auxillary file
 Aux file Data times = 2004 7 13 0 0 0 195
 Out file Ver. times = 2004 7 13 0 0 0 0
 *****************************************************************************
ERROR!!! in reconfiguration in routine Rcf_Aux_File
 Error Code:- 10
Error Message:- Date information mismatch between aux and dump files
 Error generated from processor 0
 *****************************************************************************

and this shows that the day number in your start dump has not been calculated. Day 13 of Month 7 is day number 195. If you use uminfo on your start dump you can see this.

How did you produce your start dump?

Regards,

Willie

The start dump was outputted by the UM, run xfdja (since changed), as a start dump, so I don't see why that should have done it incorrectly.

How should I correct this? I'm a bit confused.

Hi Dan,

I would repeat the creation of the start dump, ensuring the start date of the run is the same as the initial dump you are using. Then we can run uminfo to check it.

Hi Dan,

I repeated the run of xfiia on the XT4 and it crashed - failed to read the dump with error code 6. The dump is PP_20040713_00 which has been implicated in the makebc problem and the xfnka problem #540. It looks like something has happened to this start dump - it might be a good idea to re-create it.

Willie

I think you're right. PP_20040713_00 is a copy of xfcha.astart - a global run to change a .grib to a .pp file. Having regenerated the start dump and trying it again, I still get the same error. Is xfcha.astart corrupt somehow?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I have repeated the reconfiguration of the ECMWF GRIB file in my run xfnre and then processed it with my copy, xfnrf, of your xfiia. Everything works: there is no date mismatch. So somethingn went wrong with the original processing of the GRIB file. For reference, the check sums for the three nominally identical files shows that they are all different:

sum $DEVTDIR/xfnre/xfnre.astart
50395 1101568
 sum /work/n02/n02/danpeake/xfcha/xfcha.astart
05932 1101568
 sum /work/n02/n02/danpeake/MYDD/PP_20040713_00
39810 1101568

Regards,

Willie
