MetOffice script fails on MONSooN

Hi there,

I'm trying to run a MetOffice? script on MONSooN but I get an execution failure.

The program should simply edit a dump file and put constant values at the poles.

The files are two:

the script VarScr_UMFileUtils which calls the binary program VarProg_UMFileUtils.exe.

I call the script with the code:

export PATH=${VARDIR}/bin:${PATH}

cat > namelist << EOF

VarScr_UMFileUtils -u AlterData -v -n namelist ${INDIR}/xfkmea.dah8b10 \

The files are all in my home directory and are executable, though when VarProg_UMFileUtils.exe is called, I get the error:

VarProg_UMFileUtils.exe: cannot execute binary file

Do I need any particular set up to run such kind of scripts on MONSooN?

I apologise in case this is not the right place to ask help regarding this kind of issues.

Thank you,

Hi Alessio,

I'm not familiar with this script/binary, however, from the symptoms you report it looks like the exec wasn't compiled on the IBM. Where did the executable VarProg_UMFileUtils.exe come from? Was it compiled on MONSooN or the Met Office IBM? If not, then you either need to obtain the source code and recompile the executable on MONSooN or ask someone at the Met Office to copy the exectuable from the Met Office IBM (assuming they have it on there) onto MONSooN.

Hi Ros,

many thanks. After the suggestion from the Met Office folks to use this script, I looked if I could find it on MONSooN. I've found the binary in a home directory and I copied it. I assumed that the binary worked but probably that was naive.
I'll check if it is possible to get the source from the Met Office and to compile it on MONSooN.

Thank you again
