Gaussian Weights for HadAM3

Hi,

I am wondering if you can help.

I am trying to interpolate a HadAM3 climatology onto a finer ice sheet model grid. It is the first time we are using this ice sheet model, but it calls for the gaussian weights for the latitudinal cells in the code.

Previously the ice sheet model worked with the Genesis climate model and so I have attached the numbers for 45 latitudinal cells in that GCM as an example.

I am not sure what the corresponding gaussian weights for HadAM3 would be. Is there anybody who could help me with this?

I am not sure CMS know much about this so I will forward your email to Jonathan Gregory in NCAS Climate who is running HADAM3 with GLIMMER (the UK Ice sheet model) who may be able to help you.

Dear Aisling

The UM atmosphere is not a spectral model so it doesn't have Gaussian latitudes or weights. Is it area-weights that you need for the atmosphere grid boxes?

Dear Jonathan,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sorry, I hadn't realised that Gaussian weights were associated with spectral models. I should be able to calculate the area weights for HadAM3 grid boxes. I will try something different with re-gridding the GCM data onto the ice sheet model grid now.
