Data source for the CAP?

Description

Hello,

I've recently extracted SST ancillaries using the CAP. (By the way, works great, fantastic service!). I'd like to know what is the source of this data? Is it extracted from the MO climatological GISST dataset? I've compared the SST fields to the operational SST used at the Met Office (OSTIA) and the two fields are very different.

Thanks for your help!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Met Office Document 70 "Ancillary file data sources" has the following:

Both the sea surface temperature and sea ice concentration
fields have been derived from GISST 2.0 (Global sea-Ice and Sea
Surface Temperature) climatology (Parker et al 1995 or
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/hadleycentre/obsdata/GISST.html)
. Each has 12 fields valid at the middle of the month. For
each sea ice concentration field there is also derived fields
of fractional time and sea ice thickness.

Regards,

Willie
