specification of LBC generation / number of rows

Reported by: anmcr Owned by: willie
Component: UM Model Keywords: LBC generation, MAKEBC, ROSE

UM Version: 7.6

Description

Hi,

I want to generate some LBC with 1300 columns x 1300 rows.

However, in the umui I get the a 'range check error' of 'the entry 'number of rows' should lie between 1 and 999' in /atmosphere/control/output data files (LBCs etc).

Is there a way around this?

The job id is xhawc.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

You should be using MAKEBC to generate LBC files these days. The method is described in UM document F54.

Direct generation of LBCs by the UM is no longer supported. Indeed, when ROSE replaces the UMUI, it is likely to disappear altogether.

Hi Willie,

I've been working on using MAKEBC to generate the LBCs. The namelist file and makebc_script are in /work/n02/n02/anmcr/makebc.

However, I think I am doing something wrong as I get the error

'lib-4303 : UNRECOVERABLE library error
Namelist variable "x" is longer than 31 characters'

Can you please help?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

There are a couple of typos: POLELONG in the name list and, in the script, you need to introduce the input files with the "-i" option. Also the input dumps need to be at regular intervals: the astart is at 02.00, while da001 is at 03.30 and da002 is at 04.30. These should be at 02.00, 03.00 and 04.00 respectively.

Willie

Hi Willie,

Could you please have a quick look at this again.

I generated the required input data from STASH at 30 min intervals.

But still can't get the script to run. The problem seems to be related to setting up the times in the namelist.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

In the script, you have F"Oh" rather than F"zero". In the namelist the number of dumps should be three and the start and end times are relative, so, should be 0 and 1.

Regards,

Willie
