Logging into Monsoon

Description

Hi,

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask, but I'm completely unable to log into Monsoon or the met office twiki page today. Are these two machines related in some strange way beyond sharing the same building?

Is there somewhere where the Monsoon machine's status can be checked? or perhaps some kind of mailing list to find out about upcoming maintenance?

Thanks,

Lee

Hi Lee,

MONSooN is unavailable today and tomorrow due to maintenance in the IT halls this includes the Twiki server. It has been advertised on the users mailing list of which you should be on (I will check with the list adminstrator that you are). For future use notice of downtime/maintenance is posted to the following places:

  • The Met Office Collaboration Twiki pages (It's down currently so I can't post the link)
  • The collaboration newsgroups (collab.metoffice.gov.uk/twiki/bin/view/Newsgroups/WebHome)
  • The message of the day when you log onto MONSooN.
  • MONSooN user's email list

Regards,
Ros.

Hi Ros,

I guess i've just gotten used to ignoring most MOTD prompts. Thanks for adding me to the Monsoon users list, is there a similar one for PUMA?

Also, Is there a planned outage of PUMA today too? if not, then I'm getting an unusual message when ssh-ing into puma.nerc:

PTY allocation request failed on channel 0

Thanks,

Lee

Hi Lee,

Yes there is a similar user's list for PUMA and you are on it.

As you have seen there are problems with PUMA this morning and it will be fixed as soon as possible.

Regards,
Ros.

Hi Lee,

PUMA is now back up and running after a reboot. We suspect there might have been a power spike last night which caused the problem.

Ros.
